Kaizer Chiefs must reshuffle their defence after Inácio Miguel's suspension ahead of Sunday's Carling Knockout quarter-final against Siwelele FC.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz will have to make changes to his central defence after vice-captain Inácio Miguel was ruled out of Sunday’s Carling Knockout quarter-final against Siwelele FC.

The 30-year-old Angolan defender is suspended after receiving a booking during the recent Soweto Derby. His absence leaves Amakhosi with an important decision to make as they prepare for a crucial knockout encounter.

Chiefs are targeting a place in the Carling Knockout semi-finals, but they will have to do so without one of their key defensive figures.

Miguel’s Suspension Comes After Disciplinary Concerns

Miguel’s latest suspension adds to a season in which his disciplinary record has attracted attention.

The defender has collected three yellow cards and one red card in his first nine appearances of the current campaign. His aggressive approach has occasionally raised concerns, although Da Cruz has previously defended the commitment and intensity he brings to the team.

Since joining Kaizer Chiefs in August 2024, Miguel has become an important part of the club’s defence.

He made a strong impression during his debut 2024/25 season, featuring in 28 matches and accumulating 2,520 minutes on the pitch. He also contributed goals in the Nedbank Cup, scoring in each of his first three appearances in the competition.

His performances helped Chiefs secure a memorable 2-1 victory over Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final.

Rushwin Dortley Expected to Replace Miguel

With Miguel unavailable, Rushwin Dortley is expected to get an opportunity alongside Thabo Moloisane in central defence.

Dortley has been working his way back following a lengthy injury layoff, and Sunday’s encounter could provide him with an important chance to re-establish himself in the starting line-up.

The defensive reshuffle will be something to watch as Chiefs prepare to face a Siwelele side that will also be without a suspended player. Aphiwe Baliti is unavailable for the visitors.

Miguel’s Experience Remains Valuable to Amakhosi

Despite his disciplinary setbacks, Miguel brings considerable experience to the Chiefs squad.

Before moving to South Africa, the defender made 157 career appearances across a number of clubs and football leagues. His career included spells with Braga B in Portugal, Universitatea Cluj in Romania, FK Liepāja in Latvia and Petro de Luanda in Angola.

He also enjoyed success with Petro de Luanda, helping the club win domestic honours, including the Girabola title. At international level, he has earned six senior caps for Angola.

His absence will therefore be a significant consideration for Da Cruz as Chiefs look to progress in the competition.
