Relebohile Mofokeng is reportedly attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg after an impressive start at Belgian club Union SG.

Bafana Bafana star Relebohile Mofokeng is attracting growing interest from some of Germany’s biggest clubs following an outstanding start to life in European football.

The former Orlando Pirates attacker has made an impressive impact since joining Belgian champions Royal Union Saint-Gilloise (Union SG), with his performances reportedly putting him on the radar of Bundesliga sides Bayer Leverkusen and SC Freiburg.

At just 22, Mofokeng’s rapid development has strengthened suggestions that Belgium could be only the beginning of his European journey.

Mofokeng Making His Mark at Union SG

Mofokeng has quickly adapted to football in Belgium, recording five goals and four assists in 15 appearances across all competitions.

His contribution has been particularly impressive in October, when Union SG enjoyed an unbeaten run and secured four consecutive victories towards the end of the month.

The South African playmaker scored and provided an assist during a convincing 5-2 victory over Cercle Brugge. He also registered an assist in the club’s 4-0 Europa League win against Hapoel Beer Sheva.

Mofokeng continued to impress in European competition, earning the Man of the Match award after Union SG’s 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad.

He had already announced himself on the continental stage by scoring on his European debut against Viktoria Plzen. More recently, he played an important creative role as Union SG secured an impressive away victory over Celta Vigo in the Europa League.

His performances have also earned him a nomination for the Belgian Pro League Player of the Month award for October.

Bayer Leverkusen and Freiburg Reportedly Monitoring Mofokeng

According to football transfer reporter Ekrem Konur, Bundesliga clubs Bayer Leverkusen and SC Freiburg are interested in signing the talented South African.

A potential transfer would represent another major step in Mofokeng’s career, with the Bundesliga offering an opportunity to compete at an even higher level.

However, Union SG are reportedly in a strong negotiating position and could demand at least €15 million (approximately R275 million) for their prized attacker.

That valuation highlights how highly the Belgian club is believed to regard Mofokeng following his impressive performances since arriving from Orlando Pirates.

Orlando Pirates Continue to Impress Without Their Former Star

Back in South Africa, Orlando Pirates have continued their campaign with an important victory over bitter rivals Kaizer Chiefs.

The Buccaneers claimed a 2-1 win in the latest Soweto Derby, strengthening their position in the domestic title race while dealing a significant setback to Chiefs.

The result also marked another milestone for Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who recorded his 50th victory as a coach of a PSL club.

Meanwhile, Mofokeng’s progress in Belgium continues to attract attention, with a possible move to Germany potentially waiting on the horizon.

Could Relebohile Mofokeng be ready for a move to the Bundesliga, or should he spend more time developing at Union SG? Share your thoughts in the comments.
