Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Cheeseboy Mokoena explains why Kaizer Chiefs should think twice before signing Patrick 'Tito' Maswanganyi.

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Lebohang ‘Cheeseboy’ Mokoena has questioned whether Patrick ‘Tito’ Maswanganyi would be the right addition to the Kaizer Chiefs squad amid speculation linking the midfielder with a possible move to Naturena.

Maswanganyi, 28, currently plays for Bahrain-based Al-Khaldiya SC, but reports last month suggested that his future at the club could be uncertain after he reportedly fell down the pecking order.

The former Pirates star has struggled to secure regular starting opportunities. However, he recently featured as a second-half substitute in Al-Khaldiya’s 2-1 victory over Al-Wahda.

With Chiefs reportedly looking at ways to strengthen their squad, Maswanganyi’s situation could attract attention. Nevertheless, Mokoena believes Amakhosi should carefully consider whether the midfielder fits the club’s current needs.

Cheeseboy explains why Chiefs should avoid Tito

Speaking on SoccerBeat, Mokoena made it clear that he would not recommend Maswanganyi to Kaizer Chiefs.

Although he acknowledged the midfielder’s experience and previous performances, the former Pirates player argued that the current version of Tito is different from the player who impressed under former Orlando Pirates coach José Riveiro.

Mokoena suggested that Chiefs should not base a potential signing on Maswanganyi’s reputation alone, pointing to concerns about the player’s overall profile and suitability for the club.

He also referred to issues he believes were experienced during Maswanganyi’s time at Orlando Pirates, suggesting that understanding the midfielder’s personality would be important for any club considering signing him.

Mokoena further questioned whether Tito has the leadership qualities required to guide younger players in the Chiefs dressing room.

His comments offer a different perspective on a player who previously established himself as an influential figure at Pirates.

Could Patrick Maswanganyi be the missing piece at Kaizer Chiefs?

Kaizer Chiefs are continuing their efforts to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for major honours.

Bringing in an experienced attacking midfielder such as Maswanganyi could offer additional creativity and quality, particularly if he can rediscover the form that made him an important player at Orlando Pirates.

However, Mokoena’s warning raises questions about whether the midfielder would be the right fit for the current Chiefs project.

For now, there is no confirmed signing, and speculation about a possible move to Naturena remains just that.

Would Patrick ‘Tito’ Maswanganyi be a good signing for Kaizer Chiefs, or should Amakhosi look elsewhere?
