Richards Bay FC have reportedly parted ways with head coach Dimitar Pantev following a disastrous start to his tenure at the KwaZulu-Natal club.
The Bulgarian tactician was appointed on 21 September as the Natal Rich Boyz attempted to turn around their disappointing start to the 2026/27 campaign. However, his time in charge appears to have come to an abrupt end after just three competitive matches.
Pantev took over following Ronnie Gabriel’s resignation, but the expected improvement failed to materialise, leaving Richards Bay in an increasingly difficult position.
Pantev loses all three matches in charge
The reported decision to dismiss Pantev comes after three consecutive defeats across league and cup competitions.
His first match ended in a heavy 4-1 loss against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership.
Richards Bay then suffered another setback in the Carling Knockout Cup, losing 3-1 to Sekhukhune United.
Their most recent defeat proved particularly damaging, with the Natal Rich Boyz going down 3-1 to newly promoted Kruger United in a league encounter last week.
Those results left the club without a victory under Pantev, increasing pressure on the coaching situation.
Richards Bay rooted to the bottom of the PSL standings
The club’s struggles extend beyond Pantev’s short spell in charge.
After nine league matches, Richards Bay have collected just three points and sit 16th on the Betway Premiership table.
They are currently the only team in the division yet to record a league victory this season.
The poor run has placed the club in serious danger of falling further behind their rivals as the campaign progresses.
Richards Bay had hoped that appointing Pantev would provide the fresh start needed after Gabriel’s departure, but the team’s results have continued to deteriorate.
Who will replace Pantev at Richards Bay?
With Pantev reportedly out of the picture, attention will now turn to the club’s search for another head coach.
Richards Bay need someone capable of restoring confidence, improving performances and delivering their first league victory of the season.
The next appointment will be crucial as the Natal Rich Boyz attempt to climb away from the bottom of the standings and revive their campaign.
The club’s supporters will be hoping for a quick turnaround before the situation becomes even more difficult.
Who should Richards Bay FC appoint as their next head coach?
