Former Muvhango star Tebogo Thobejane, a survivor of an assassination attempt herself, has passionately condemned the South African justice system following the murder of Witness D, who was gunned down in Brakpan on Friday, December 5, 2025, just weeks after testifying at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Anger Over Failed Protection
Reacting on Instagram the day after the assassination, Thobejane expressed intense heartbreak and anger, specifically targeting the state for its failure to protect crucial witnesses.
- The System’s Flaw: Thobejane questioned the state’s priorities, asking why millions are spent on commissions while individuals who offer testimony are left defenseless. She stated, “Witness D’s death showed us everything we needed to know.”
- Safety Inequality: The celebrity argued that the tragedy reinforced her conviction that ordinary South Africans are not adequately protected, stating that those running the commission “sit behind protected walls,” while citizens are left to “bleed, bury, and fear for our lives.”

Call to Action Against Cartels
Thobejane, who survived an attempt on her own life in 2023, emphasized that the lack of protection makes survival difficult and frightening for the public.
- Tired of Surviving: She called out people in power for failing to shield citizens targeted by what she termed the “Big Five Criminal Cartel.”
- Plea for Protection: Her post concluded with a desperate call for accountability: “What more must happen before someone in power protects the people who actually need protection? … This is not justice. This is survival and we are tired of surviving.”
Thobejane’s comments underscore a deep frustration regarding the security and integrity of the process for those brave enough to testify against powerful criminal elements.
