Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF Confederation Cup campaign has come to an end after Amakhosi were eliminated by Red Arrows following a dramatic penalty shootout.
The match finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, with neither side able to find a decisive winner during regulation time. The tie ultimately had to be settled from the penalty spot, where Red Arrows held their nerve to secure a 3-2 victory on penalties.
The result means Chiefs bow out of the competition despite battling until the final whistle. The Glamour Boys were unable to make their pressure count when it mattered most, with the decisive moments coming during the shootout.
Red Arrows showed composure from 12 yards to complete the victory, while Chiefs were left to deal with the disappointment of another difficult night in continental competition.
The final score read Kaizer Chiefs 1 (2) – 1 (3) Red Arrows, with the Zambian side progressing after the penalty drama.
For Chiefs, the focus now turns back to their domestic campaign. Coach Fernando Da Cruz and his technical team will have to regroup quickly, with the early continental exit likely to raise questions about the team’s consistency and their ability to convert opportunities in decisive matches.
For Red Arrows, meanwhile, the result represents a memorable night as they advance at Chiefs’ expense.
