Ronwen Williams injury return

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has handed the “Yellow Nation” a massive boost by confirming that star goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams is on the verge of a return to action.

The South African international and reigning CAF Goalkeeper of the Year has been sidelined recently with a groin injury, an absence that proved costly during the Brazilians’ 2-1 CAF Champions League setback against Al-Hilal in Rwanda. While veteran Denis Onyango deputized in his absence, the stability and leadership of the Bafana Bafana #1 have been sorely missed.

In a recent update, Cardoso expressed optimism that Williams could be back as early as this weekend. While the coach deferred to the medical department for the final green light, he allayed fears of a long-term layoff, stating:

“We hope to have Ronwen Williams back very soon; let’s hope he will be available this weekend. It’s not a long-term injury, but I worry about the ones that are present.”

With crucial fixtures looming in both the Betway Premiership and the CAF Champions League, getting the “Wall of Pretoria” back between the sticks is a priority for Cardoso as he looks to steady the defense and return to winning ways.
