The appointment of Prof Van Dyk follows a rigorous international search and a consultative process involving the Senate, Student Representative Council, and Institutional Forum. Currently the Executive Dean of Engineering at North-West University, she brings a “rare combination of strategic clarity and operational depth” to Stellenbosch.

A Vision of Academic Coherence

Prof Van Dyk’s roadmap for SU focuses on moving away from fragmented faculty planning toward a structured, integrated academic project. Her vision centers on three primary pillars:

  • Data-Informed Governance: Aligning academic planning across the entire undergraduate-to-postgraduate continuum to ensure financial and academic sustainability.
  • Inclusive Excellence: Strengthening “student belonging” and success through multilingual engagement and diversified access pathways.
  • Global-African Synergy: Developing a curriculum that is deeply African-rooted yet globally competitive and connected.
