In a move described as a “historic milestone” for South African football, Kaizer Chiefs officially unveiled their newly-formed women’s side, Kaizer Chiefs Ladies, at a special launch event in Daveyton on Tuesday.
The entry of the “Home of Legends” into the women’s game marks a seismic shift in the local football landscape, as one of the continent’s most iconic brands finally establishes a formal pathway for female athletes.
The Vision: Beyond the Pitch
The club emphasized that this launch is not a sudden PR move, but the result of a structured, multi-year journey. Since 2023, Amakhosi has collaborated with pioneers like Springs Home Sweepers and Joseph Mkhonza to build the necessary capacity and knowledge to compete at an elite level.
“This is about building real pathways for women in the game… ensuring that every girl child knows there is a place for her at the Home of Legends.” — Kaizer Chiefs Official Statement
Chairman Kaizer Motaung echoed this sentiment, highlighting the club’s responsibility to the future of the sport: “Women’s football is an important part of the future, and we are committed to being part of that journey.”
