Kaizer Chiefs youngster Langelihle Phili says scoring against Mamelodi Sundowns was a special moment as he looks to win over the Amakhosi faithful.
Langelihle Phili has revealed the emotions behind his first goal for Kaizer Chiefs, admitting that earning the love of the club’s supporters was one of his biggest priorities after arriving at Naturena.
The 21-year-old attacker made a major impact against Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium, firing past goalkeeper Ronwen Williams to give Amakhosi the lead.
Although Sundowns eventually fought back to secure a 1-1 draw, Phili’s performance provided another encouraging sign for Chiefs and their supporters.
Phili embraces the big stage
Having joined Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC, Phili has quickly shown why the club invested in his potential.
Scoring against the reigning African champions made the occasion even more significant for the young attacker.
Phili explained that playing in high-profile matches is exactly what he wanted when he joined one of South Africa’s biggest clubs.
He also admitted that his emotional celebration reflected just how much the moment meant to him.
‘I wanted to earn the love of the fans’
For Phili, however, the goal is about more than personal recognition.
The youngster says his priority is helping Chiefs succeed while continuing to develop under the coaching staff and alongside his more experienced teammates.
He also made it clear that winning over the Amakhosi supporters remains important to him.
His message to the fans is simple: he intends to repay their support through hard work and maximum effort on the pitch.
Phili becoming a key part of Chiefs’ attack
The former Stellenbosch player has emerged as one of the more eye-catching additions to the Chiefs squad this season.
His pace, attacking intent and confidence have added another dimension to Amakhosi’s forward play, while his goal against Sundowns could provide an important boost to his confidence.
If Phili can maintain his early form, Chiefs may have found a young attacking player capable of becoming a major figure at Naturena.
