Massive player clearout at Durban City FC! Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Khalil Ben Youssef releases 9 players ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

Durban City FC have kicked off a massive squad overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season, confirming the high-profile departure of nine players.

The major roster shake-up marks the first big move by newly appointed head coach Khalil Ben Youssef. The tactical mastermind, who was at the helm of Kaizer Chiefs last season, wasted no time reshaping the KwaZulu-Natal outfit to match his footballing philosophy.

In an official club statement, Durban City revealed that four loanees have officially returned to their parent clubs, while five additional senior players have packed their bags following the expiration of their contracts.

The Exits: Who’s Out?

The club has bidden farewell to a mix of loanees and permanent squad members:

  • Returned Loanees: Terrence Mashego, Taahir Goedeman, Ronaldo Maarman, and Siphiwe Mahlangu.
  • Contract Expirations: Falakhe Tshanini, Odwa Nyulu, Joslin Kamatuka, Onele Rulwana, and Lindokuhle Chonco.

“The Club would like to thank each player for their contribution during their time at Durban City FC and wishes them every success in their future endeavours,” the team stated.

More Drama Expected in KZN

This nine-man exit is just the tip of the iceberg. With the 2026/27 Betway Premiership campaign looming, coach Ben Youssef is expected to actively dip into the transfer market. Fans can brace themselves for a flurry of new arrivals and further departures in the coming weeks as “The Citizens” look to build a squad capable of challenging the league’s elite.
