South African wizard Relebohile Mofokeng is officially packing his bags for Europe, but he couldn’t resist throwing one final, playful jab at structural rivals Kaizer Chiefs before his departure.
The 21-year-old winger, who finalized a blockbuster move from Orlando Pirates to Belgian champions Royale Union Saint-Gilloise (USG), is scheduled to fly out of South Africa this Thursday to join his new club’s pre-season camp.
Giving Back & Saying Goodbye
Before embarking on his European adventure, Mofokeng returned home to the Vaal to spend quality time with his family and community:
- Grassroots Impact: He hosted his foundation’s annual youth grassroots football tournaments across Sharpeville and Vanderbijlpark, drawing massive local crowds.
- The Star-Studded Farewell: The winger hosted an intimate, upscale farewell dinner attended by close friends, family, and several of his Bafana Bafana international teammates.
The Cheeky Naturena Dig
It was during his official farewell speech that Mofokeng left the room in absolute stitches, taking a lighthearted swipe at the Glamour Boys whom he routinely terrorized in the Soweto Derby:
“Kaizer Chiefs will now be able to rest now that I am leaving South Africa.” — Relebohile Mofokeng
The witty remark perfectly encapsulates the iconic, fierce rivalry between the two Soweto giants. Mofokeng consistently proved to be a thorn in the side of the Amakhosi backline during his tenure in the Betway Premiership, cementing his status as an absolute fan favorite among the Ghost.
He now heads to Brussels to begin rigorous training with Union SG, looking to replicate his mesmerizing domestic form on the European stage.
