Media executive and musician Loyiso Bala reveals his next chapter, joining the 2026 Executive Programme in Media Leadership at GIBS Business School.

Following his high-profile exit from the public broadcaster, award-winning South African music icon and veteran media executive Loyiso Bala has officially unveiled the next major milestone in his professional career.

Stepping boldly into a season of corporate and academic growth, Bala revealed that he has been selected to join the highly competitive 2026 Executive Programme in Media Leadership at the world-renowned GIBS (Gordon Institute of Business Science) Business School.

A Pan-African Cohort Reshaping Storytelling

The elite executive program brings together a carefully curated group of media pioneers from across South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, and Namibia tasked with driving innovation and navigating the future of continental broadcasting.

Taking to Instagram to share his gratitude, Bala framed the opportunity as a perfectly timed pivot:

“I’m honoured to share that I’ve been selected to join the 2026 Executive Programme in Media Leadership at GIBS Business School… It comes at a season of real change for me. A season of new beginnings, new lessons, and new opportunities. I’m grateful for the chance to keep learning, growing, and deepening my understanding of the future of media and storytelling on our continent.”

Closing a Five-Year Dynasty in the Eastern Cape

Bala’s academic milestone arrives just weeks after he formally wrapped up an incredibly successful five-year tenure as the Business Manager of the SABC’s Eastern Cape Combo, where he oversaw the commercial and operational strategies for powerhouse radio stations Umhlobo Wenene FM and truFM.

Reflecting on his departure from the SABC, Bala emphasized the mutual trust that anchored his executive team:

“To the UWFM and trufm teams I had the privilege of working with, thank you for your trust, commitment and shared purpose. You gave me more than support. You trusted me, and that is not something I take lightly or will ever forget.”

While his time on the airwaves and public broadcasting boardrooms has come to a close, Bala’s move to GIBS underlines a deliberate long-term strategy to place himself at the absolute vanguard of global African media investment and leadership.
