Access to education is a fundamental human right, yet for many students, financial challenges remain a major barrier to completing their studies. Recognising this, the Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund (LPFF) offers a bursary programme aimed at supporting law students who are either in serious financial need or who demonstrate strong academic performance.
The LPFF understands that a well-functioning legal system depends on a steady pipeline of well-educated, qualified legal professionals. Without them, not only would the justice system falter, but South Africans would also be more vulnerable to misinformation and exploitation by unqualified individuals posing as legal experts.
To protect the integrity of South Africa’s legal system and ensure equal access to justice, the Fidelity Fund is committed to empowering future legal professionals through its bursary initiative. The programme invites applications from students pursuing qualifications such as BA (Law), BCom (Law), BProc, B Luris, LLB, or equivalent degrees. Applicants must either demonstrate significant financial need or excel academically.
To qualify, students must be in the first semester of their second year at the time of applying. Successful applicants receive funding for their third and fourth years of study. Third-year students may also apply, in which case the bursary covers their final year of tuition.
Over the years, many beneficiaries of the bursary have gone on to build successful legal careers, underscoring the programme’s long-term value in strengthening South Africa’s legal profession.
