The University of South Africa (Unisa) is taking urgent steps against former student Simamkele Xani, accusing him of violating a 2024 court order by publishing fresh, explosive corruption allegations against Vice-Chancellor Professor Puleng LenkaBula.

Key Allegations Made by Ex-Student Xani
- LenkaBula allegedly awarded an R82 million security tender to an ANC MP.
- Accused of using R200 million of university funds on legal battles while academic performance declined.
- Claims of manipulating council appointments to secure her reappointment for a second term.
- Allegations of bribing a former employee with over R500,000 to fabricate sexual harassment claims against a professor.
Unisa’s Response
Unisa, via its lawyers, has demanded that Xani retract his letter—which was sent to the Unisa council and various government bodies—within 24 hours. The university asserts that the claims are false, defamatory, and strictly prohibited by the 2024 High Court interdict, which restrained Xani from publishing similar allegations regarding LenkaBula’s appointment and title.
Unisa’s lawyers warn they will file an urgent contempt of court application if the retraction is not made.
