
Teboho Mokoena has received another major recognition after being honoured at the Free State Sports Awards for his impressive contributions to both club and country.
The Teboho Mokoena midfielder was among the outstanding sports personalities recognised at an awards ceremony hosted by Free State MEC for Sports Zanele Sifuba on 15 August.
Mokoena, who was born and raised in Bethlehem, Free State, received an Excellence Award in recognition of his performances for Mamelodi Sundowns and South Africa national football team.
The honour comes after a memorable period for the midfielder, who represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He also found the net from the penalty spot during Bafana Bafana’s 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic.
Taking to social media, Mokoena expressed his gratitude for the recognition and reflected on his roots.
“Honoured to receive an Excellence Award from the Free State MEC. Grateful for where I come from and excited for what’s still ahead.”
Mokoena’s career numbers
The 29-year-old has established himself as an important figure for both Sundowns and Bafana Bafana since joining the Pretoria giants from SuperSport United.
For Sundowns, Mokoena has made 181 competitive appearances, contributing 20 goals and 14 assists.
At international level, he has earned 54 caps for South Africa, scoring 10 goals.
His latest award underlines the impact he continues to make on the field while also highlighting the pride he brings to his home province.
