The stage is set for an emotional start to the first Springboks vs All Blacks Test at Ellis Park, with the artists who will perform the national anthems now confirmed.
As anticipation builds for Saturday’s blockbuster Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry clash, supporters will first witness a special musical moment before the teams take to the field.
Demi Lee Moore to lead South African anthem
South African singer Demi Lee Moore has been confirmed to perform the country’s national anthem before kick-off.
The Worcester-born artist rose to prominence after appearing on Idols SA before winning the inaugural season of Die Kontrak in 2018. She has since established herself as an award-winning pop and country performer and has become a familiar name at major South African music events.
Her appearance at Ellis Park promises to add another memorable moment to an already highly anticipated occasion.
Matiu Walter to perform New Zealand anthem
Representing New Zealand will be Matiu Walter, frontman and rhythm guitarist of the hugely successful New Zealand pop-rock group Six60.
Walter has previously performed “God Defend New Zealand” at major rugby occasions, including an All Blacks Bledisloe Cup match against Australia.
His performance will set the tone for the New Zealand side before the teams face each other in one of international rugby’s most iconic rivalries.
The Haka will follow the anthems
Once the two anthems are completed, attention will immediately turn to the All Blacks’ Haka.
Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has urged supporters at Ellis Park to respect the traditional challenge and allow the moment to unfold rather than attempting to drown it out.
Erasmus has explained that the Springboks’ attitude towards the Haka has evolved, with the squad now viewing the experience as an honour rather than something they need to counter.
His message to the Ellis Park crowd is simple: let the Haka be heard, embrace the occasion — and then unleash the famous South African atmosphere.
Rugby legends add to the spectacle
The match will also feature an impressive broadcast and entertainment line-up, with rugby legends from both nations involved in the coverage.
New Zealand icons Richie McCaw and Dan Carter will be joined by Springbok greats including Jean de Villiers, Schalk Burger and Steven Kitshoff.
The extensive SuperSport team will bring together former players, analysts, commentators and presenters to provide insight into what is expected to be a memorable opening chapter in Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry series.
With the anthems, the Haka and a packed Ellis Park crowd all part of the occasion, Saturday’s Test promises plenty of theatre before the first whistle.
