Media entrepreneur and radio personality Sbusiso “DJ Sbu” Leope has hit back strongly against allegations of corruption linking him to the City of Ekurhuleni, declaring his intention to pursue legal remedies against those damaging his reputation.
The Allegations: A Fabrication
DJ Sbu’s firm response follows testimony given at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry by the suspended Head of Legal and Risk Services for the City of Ekurhuleni, Advocate Kemi Behari. Behari alleged that DJ Sbu and businessman Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza benefited improperly from municipal funds, specifically grants-in-aid totaling over R100 million meant for events.
Behari testified that he was pressured to shut down investigations into these dealings just as they gained momentum.
DJ Sbu’s Official Denial
In a formal statement released on 9 February 2026, DJ Sbu dismissed the allegations as “false, misleading, and unsubstantiated.”
“I categorically deny any involvement in wrongdoing, misconduct, or unethical activity of any kind. Throughout my career in broadcasting, entrepreneurship, and public service, I have conducted myself with integrity,” Leope stated.
He further suggested that his name is being used as a smoke screen to divert attention from internal accountability failures within the municipality.
“I am deeply concerned that these allegations appear to be part of an attempt to divert attention from ongoing internal matters and personal accountability issues by creating false narratives involving respected public figures.”
Legal Action Pending
Vowing to protect his personal brand, DJ Sbu indicated that he is consulting legal counsel regarding the defamatory nature of the testimony.
“I reserve all my legal rights and remedies in relation to these defamatory statements and will not hesitate to pursue appropriate action should these false claims continue to damage my reputation.”
The Madlanga Commission continues to investigate claims of political interference and corruption within the Ekurhuleni metro.
