Major changes coming to Mayfair! Orlando Pirates midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula is attracting PSL interest, while Kabelo Dlamini and Tshegofatso Mabasa could also be on the move.

As Orlando Pirates close in on the Betway Premiership title, the focus is already shifting toward a squad refresh for the 2026/27 campaign. While the “Ghost” celebrates on the pitch, several high-profile names are facing uncertain futures at Mayfair, with veteran midfielder Makhehleni Makhaula and playmaker Kabelo Dlamini topping the list of potential departures.

The Makhaula Situation: Experience vs. Youth

At 36 years old, Makhehleni Makhaula remains a respected figure in South African football. However, the rise of younger stars has seen the former AmaZulu captain slip down the pecking order under coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

  • The Logjam: The emergence of Thalente Mbatha, Sipho Mbule, and Patrick Maswanganyi has limited Makhaula’s game time. Furthermore, the club is eager to integrate “New Blood” like Masindi Nemtajela, Camren Dansin, and Simphiwe Selepe.
  • The Market: Despite turning 37 in November, Makhaula is not short of suitors. His leadership and consistency have reportedly alerted several PSL rivals who are monitoring his situation closely as his contract nears its conclusion.

Dlamini and Mabasa: High-Value Targets on the Move

Makhaula isn’t the only one looking at the exit door. The Buccaneers are expected to make several big decisions regarding their attacking department:

  • Kabelo Dlamini: The R9-million rated creative spark has found starts hard to come by this season. Reports suggest Dlamini is already exploring options for next season to ensure he returns to regular first-team football.
  • Tshegofatso Mabasa: Currently impressing on loan at Stellenbosch FC, Mabasa’s contract is also expiring. His goal-scoring form has sparked a bidding war, with Kaizer Chiefs, AmaZulu, and Egyptian giants Al Ahly all reportedly keeping tabs on the striker.
