Former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane explains why he considers himself part of the Kaizer Chiefs family amid ongoing rumors linking him to Amakhosi.

Highly decorated former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly mastermind Pitso Mosimane has given a fascinating insight into his deep-rooted personal ties to Kaizer Chiefs.

The 61-year-old tactician, whose name is constantly linked with the hot seat at Naturena, shared these intimate reflections while celebrating with an Amakhosi royalty figure. Mosimane was among the high-profile guests honoring club legend Doctor Khumalo, who was recently bestowed with an Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy by the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT).

A Deeply Entwined Footballing Family Tree

Explaining his ties to the Glamour Boys, “Jingles” revealed that his connection to the club transcends modern transfer rumors; it is woven directly into his family history and early footballing days.

“It’s a small world. Doc’s [Khumalo] father was the one putting me in the car. Football is a small world, and we belong to one family. It’s a big, but very small family.

I’m part of the Kaizer Chiefs family because of my son. It’s a big, small family. My uncles, one played for Pirates, the other played for Chiefs, the one who trained Doc. It’s an ecosystem, we come from one place, one family.”Pitso Mosimane

“Football Saved Us From the Township”

Mosimane also took a moment to reflect on the transformative power of the beautiful game in South Africa, expressing immense gratitude for the platform it gave both him and Doctor Khumalo to rise from humble beginnings.

“There are a lot of stories to tell from these things. We come from the township, we come from humble beginnings. Football gave us a chance to be people, to be recognized, to be acknowledged.

Football saved us from the township. I’m not saying the township is not good; we belong there, my family is still there.”

The Rumor Mill: Could “Jingles” Finally Land at Naturena?

With Mosimane currently unattached to a club, his nostalgic comments are bound to set off alarm bells within the Amakhosi fanbase. Kaizer Chiefs are currently under the technical guidance of Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, but the football fraternity continues to wonder if the board will ever make a definitive play to bring South Africa’s most successful tactician home.
