Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus confirms the completion of pre-season alignment camps. Read details on the upcoming squad announcement and 2026 fixtures.

The foundation blocks for the Springboks’ grueling 2026 international test campaign have officially been laid. Head coach Rassie Erasmus expressed immense satisfaction on Thursday as the national team successfully wrapped up their second and final pre-season alignment camp in Cape Town.

With boardroom briefings and gym testing out of the way, the back-to-back world champions are geared up to transition into intense on-field training camps starting early June.

Over 60 Players Evaluated in Systematic Masterplan

The strategic focus of these sessions was simple: widen the national selection radar and bridge the gap for a surging wave of fresh domestic talent. Over 60 players were integrated across the two alignment blocks, allowing the technical bench to benchmark the country’s elite depth.

While certain overseas stars and injured players participated virtually, Erasmus emphasized that the core structural goals were comprehensively met.

“Every year after an alignment camp, we say we are happy with where we are currently, but I guess it will only be clear when we start playing,” Erasmus noted honestly. “What we’ve tried to introduce was to bring in young players who haven’t been part of our system… so in that sense, the players are starting to feel more comfortable. In general, however, I think we are in a good place as a group.”

Countdown to the Squad Announcement

Erasmus confirmed that the official training squad for next month’s field sessions will be unveiled within the next two weeks.

The on-field countdown sparks to life on Saturday, 20 June in Gqeberha with a unique double-header: the Springboks taking on the Barbarians and the SA ‘A’ side clashing with Zimbabwe.
