Just hours after announcing four massive new arrivals, Betway Premiership champions Orlando Pirates have swung the axe. In a stunning squad shake-up, the Buccaneers have officially confirmed the departure of five first-team players, headlined by midfield maestro Sipho Mbule.

“The Master Chef” leaves Mayfair after just one season, marking a bittersweet end to a promising chapter that promised so much.

The End of the Master Chef’s Spell

Mbule, who quickly became a fan favorite with his sublime skills, made 23 appearances across all competitions for the Sea Robbers, netting a single goal. His early-season brilliance was so impactful that it earned him a recall to the Bafana Bafana national setup, where he helped secure qualification for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and featured in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

However, whisperings of off-field issues began to cloud his time at the club in recent months. As his game time dwindled, so did his long-term prospects at Mayfair, culminating in Tuesday’s official exit.

The Mass Exodus: Who Else is Leaving?

Mbule isn’t the only high-profile name heading out the exit door as the club ruthlessly clears space for its new arrivals.

In an official club statement released on Tuesday, Orlando Pirates confirmed a five-man mass exodus upon the expiration of their contracts:

“The players who will be leaving the Club upon the conclusion of their respective contracts are Bandile Shandu, Sipho Mbule, Tshegofatso Mabasa, Karim Kimvuidi, and Deivi Miguel Vieira (Gilberto).

Orlando Pirates Football Club thanks Bandile, Sipho, Tshegofatso, Karim, and Gilberto for their service and wishes them all the best in the next chapters of their respective careers.”

The inclusion of names like lethal marksman Tshegofatso Mabasa and crowd-pleaser Karim Kimvuidi proves that the technical team is completely rewriting the script for their upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.

As for Mbule, a player of his undeniable quality won’t stay a free agent for long. Transfer speculation is already intensifying as rival clubs scramble to secure his signature for the new season.
