South African TV host Molemo "Jub Jub" Maarohanye has been arrested in Edenvale on charges of kidnapping and shooting at an e-hailing driver over a suspected affair.

Controversial South African media personality, musician, and Uyajola 9/9 television host Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanye has been arrested yet again. The 45-year-old celebrity is facing severe criminal charges after a highly volatile Sunday morning confrontation with an e-hailing driver escalated into an alleged kidnapping and shooting incident in Edenvale, Ekurhuleni.

According to statements from South African Police Service (SAPS) national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe and Gauteng Police spokesperson Tintswalo Sibeko, the dramatic incident unfolded around 7:30 AM on Sunday, 14 June 2026.

Jealous Rage: Inside the Alleged Altercation

The state alleges that the incident began directly after an e-hailing driver transported a female passenger to a residence in the Edenvale suburb. Upon dropping her off, the driver was abruptly confronted by Maarohanye, who aggressively accused him of being romantically involved with his girlfriend.

Timeline of the Alleged Incident

The police report details a terrifying sequence of events for the transport worker:

  • 07:30 AM: The e-hailing driver drops a female passenger off at an Edenvale property.
  • The Confrontation: Maarohanye intercepts the driver, leveling accusations of an ongoing romantic affair with his partner.
  • The Kidnapping: The driver is allegedly forcibly removed from his own vehicle and detained inside one of Maarohanye’s cars.
  • The Gunshot: While being held and interrogated inside the vehicle, the suspect reportedly discharged a firearm in the direction of the driver.
  • The Escape: The driver miraculously managed to break away unharmed, driving straight to the nearest police station to blow the whistle.

“The e-hailing driver managed to escape unharmed and immediately drove to a nearby police station to report the matter. Police acted swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident,” confirmed Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

Back to Court: A History of Legal Troubles

Maarohanye was processed swiftly by law enforcement and remains in custody. He is facing three distinct criminal counts:

  1. Kidnapping
  2. Unlawful discharge of a firearm in public
  3. Defeating the ends of justice

The TV host is scheduled to make his first appearance regarding this matter in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

This latest arrest adds another dark chapter to the star’s notoriously turbulent legal history. In 2012, Maarohanye famously served five years of a reduced culpable homicide sentence following a devastating 2010 drug-fueled drag racing crash in Soweto that claimed the lives of four school children and left two others permanently injured. More recently, in July 2024, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) withdrew separate, heavy charges of rape, attempted murder, and assault against him due to a lack of successful prosecution prospects.
