The PSL transfer market has just been set ablaze by a few simple clicks on social media. Former Mamelodi Sundowns talisman Lucas Ribeiro Costa has sent shockwaves through the local football fraternity after eagle-eyed fans noticed he has suddenly started following a host of prominent Kaizer Chiefs stars.
The 27-year-old Brazilian wizard is currently a free agent after parting ways with Spanish outfit Cultural Leonesa, and his digital footprint has Amakhosi fans dreaming of a blockbuster arrival at Naturena.
The Social Media Clues
Ribeiro has recently added several high-profile Kaizer Chiefs stars to his following list, including:
- The Glamour Boys: Mfundo Vilakazi, Mduduzi Shabalala, Luke Baartman, Bradley Cross, and Khanyiso Mayo.
- The Sundowns Connection: Interestingly, he also followed current Masandawana midfielder Lebohang Maboe, keeping fans on both sides guessing.
A Complicated History & The Sundowns Plot Twist
Ribeiro’s initial exit from Chloorkop last year was filled with drama. Despite an incredible return of 30 goals in 55 appearances for Masandawana, Sundowns terminated his contract (which was meant to run until 2028). The Brazilians took the matter to legal channels, but FIFA ultimately upheld the contract termination, freeing him up to move to Spain.
Now, the plot thickens. According to iDiski Times, a sensational, bridges-rebuilt return to Mamelodi Sundowns is also not entirely off the table. The forward is reportedly open to donning the sky-blue and yellow again if terms can be struck.
Fanbase Meltdown
The mere hint of Ribeiro returning to South Africa has caused absolute chaos on X (formerly Twitter).
“The meltdown that’s gonna happen on the TL when Kaizer Chiefs announce Lucas Ribeiro,” posted a confident Amakhosi fan (@Ta_Size_).
Meanwhile, Sundowns fans are deeply divided. While some crave his clinical final-third finishing, others feel a return would be a step backward. Fans are already drawing comparisons to other transfer targets, with one supporter noting they’d be far more moved by securing Ribeiro than Golden Arrows star Siyanda Ndlovu.
