With both the Springboks and Scotland expected to deploy fast, expansive, and free-flowing game plans this Saturday, a massive tactical responsibility will fall on the shoulders of the match officials. World Rugby has confirmed that French referee Pierre Brousset will be the man in the middle for this blockbuster Nations Championship Round 2 clash at Loftus Versfeld.
The 37-year-old official brings a wealth of elite experience to Pretoria, having been a mainstay in the French Top 14 since 2016, a member of the 2023 Rugby World Cup panel, and a regular whistle-blower in the Six Nations.

Townsend’s Bench Regret: “I should have gone 7-1 against the Boks”
Adding to the pre-match psychological warfare, Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend admitted he seriously considered mimicking the Springboks’ infamous tactical blueprint by loading a 7-1 split on his bench instead of his finalized 6-2 structure.
“We know that the forwards are going to be the ones that are really going to be tested this week against the best pack in world rugby,” Townsend noted. “I’m a bit disappointed in myself that we didn’t go 7-1. That was discussed a lot during the week… They went 7-1 against us. In the end, we went for 6-2. So, traditional for us!”
