The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has officially ignited the countdown to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season by releasing a blockbuster opening weekend schedule.
While defending champions Orlando Pirates and rivals Mamelodi Sundowns face intriguing assignments, the ultimate tactical subplot belongs to two men who were calling the shots at Naturena just a few months ago. Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef—who served as Kaizer Chiefs’ co-coaches last season before being replaced by Fernando Da Cruz—will square off on opposite benches on the very first day of the season.
The Subplot: Kaze vs. Ben Youssef
Last season, Kaze and Ben Youssef defied expectations to guide Amakhosi to a strong third-place finish, securing qualification for both the MTN8 and the CAF Confederation Cup. Now, they meet as rivals:
- Cedric Kaze takes the wheel at Sekhukhune United.
- Khalil Ben Youssef leads a rebranded Durban City FC side.
Their highly anticipated tactical reunion goes down at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday, 1 August, at 18:00.
How the “Big Three” Shape Up for Kickoff
The opening Saturday (1 August) is absolutely stacked with heavyweight action across the country:
- Orlando Pirates vs. Milford FC (15:30): The defending champions, now under the guidance of Abdeslam Ouaddou, launch their title defense at Orlando Stadium against Xanti Pupuma’s newly promoted giant-killers.
- Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Marumo Gallants (18:00): After shockingly surrendering their eight-year league monopoly last season, Masandawana return to Loftus Versfeld determined to lay down an immediate marker.
- Kruger United vs. Kaizer Chiefs (20:15): The Fernando Da Cruz era officially begins in prime time. Amakhosi travel to Mbombela Stadium to face top-flight newcomers Kruger United, aiming for a convincing start to their redemption campaign.
