Orlando Pirates look set to miss out on one of South Africa’s brightest teenage talents.
Cape Town City’s 17-year-old prodigy Emile Witbooi has been invited for a trial period with Bundesliga titans Bayern Munich. The highly-rated attacker, who has been heavily linked with a move to Orlando Pirates throughout pre-season, is being prepared for a high-profile stint in Germany.
Cape Town City chairman John Comitis confirmed the invitation, highlighting that the club prioritizes giving Witbooi exposure to world-class football environments.

Speaking on Sports Night Amplified, Comitis revealed the youngster’s growing international resume:
“He’s been on trial at Chelsea, so he’s seen the best. He went to Sporting Lisbon by request,” Comitis stated.
“We’ve got an invitation for him to go to Bayern Munich, which we’re now considering, only to keep him relevant for his own good and to see which level he needs to reach.”
Comitis also clarified that while Pirates and Sundowns remain potential local avenues, no formal bid was submitted by the Buccaneers for the 17-year-old playmaker.

While Witbooi would have added elite young flair to the Buccaneers’ frontline, Pirates have already completed nine summer signings to bolster their squad. Coming off a domestic treble-winning campaign last season, the Sea Robbers are putting their primary focus on a deep run in the CAF Champions League.
