Sometimes the most memorable records are born from unexpected studio moments, and DJ Sliqe has revealed how a simple show of faith in an unfamiliar artist helped shape “Lapisa.”
The South African DJ and producer recently opened up about the story behind the track, explaining how LaCabra’s confidence in Dolphin DX created an opportunity that ultimately became an important part of the song.
An Unexpected Studio Collaboration
According to Sliqe, the story began earlier in the year when he invited Lowfeye and LaCabra to the studio to work on another song, “Banger,” featuring YC.
However, the session took an unexpected turn when the duo arrived with an artist Sliqe and his team had never met before—Dolphin DX.
After completing work on “Banger,” the artists weren’t ready to call it a night. Lowfeye and LaCabra asked Sliqe whether there were more beats they could work on, and the producer opened up the session for them to continue creating.
What followed was an extended studio session that resulted in several additional recordings.
LaCabra Puts Dolphin DX Forward
It was during one of those sessions that LaCabra made a simple request that would ultimately help shape “Lapisa.”
“Yo, let my boy hop on the mic.”
Sliqe admitted that he had no previous relationship with Dolphin DX and didn’t know what to expect from the newcomer. Instead of dismissing the unfamiliar artist, however, he decided to trust LaCabra’s judgement.
For Sliqe, the creative process was ultimately about making the best music possible. Since he already respected LaCabra as an artist, he saw no reason to ignore an artist whom LaCabra personally believed in.
Trusting New Talent
Sliqe also reflected on how unfamiliar artists can sometimes struggle to get opportunities in established studio environments.
Rather than approaching Dolphin DX with preconceived ideas, the producer chose to give him an opportunity to showcase what he could do.
That decision became a key moment in the creation of “Lapisa.”
Dolphin’s contribution eventually became part of the record, demonstrating how spontaneous collaborations and a willingness to trust new talent can produce unexpected results.
