Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart has been rewarded for his impressive spell in Austria after SV Ried handed the midfielder an improved contract.
Maart has continued to build his career abroad since leaving Kaizer Chiefs in July 2025, and his performances for SV Ried have now earned him a new deal.
The 31-year-old joined the Austrian club on a two-year contract that was originally due to expire in June 2027. However, after establishing himself as an important member of the team, Ried have moved to improve his terms.
Maart’s agency, P Management, confirmed the development on social media on Friday, although the length and specific details of his new agreement have not been disclosed.
Maart makes his mark at SV Ried
The move to Austria has proved to be a productive one for the former Amakhosi skipper.
Maart quickly established himself as a regular starter at SV Ried and has gone on to make 44 appearances across all competitions, contributing two assists.
His consistency in midfield has made him an important part of the Austrian side since his arrival.
The midfielder moved to Europe after helping Kaizer Chiefs end a long wait for silverware. He left Amakhosi shortly after they won the Nedbank Cup, their first major trophy in a decade.
New deal could fend off transfer interest
The improved contract comes at a time when Maart has reportedly attracted interest from elsewhere.
Romanian club FC Dinamo București were recently linked with a move for the former Bafana Bafana international during the current transfer window.
While there has been no confirmation that the new deal includes an extended stay beyond his previous contract, SV Ried’s decision to improve his terms could be viewed as an effort to keep the experienced midfielder at the club.
