Orlando Pirates have received encouraging news on the fitness of Sihle Nduli, with the midfielder taking another important step in his recovery from an ankle injury.
The 30-year-old has now completed the latest phase of his rehabilitation and has started running on the field, easing concerns that he could face another extended spell away from football.
Nduli makes progress after latest setback
Nduli suffered the injury during Pirates’ 1-1 Betway Premiership draw against AmaZulu at Kings Park Stadium on 12 August.
The setback was particularly frustrating for the midfielder, who had only recently returned to competitive football after missing the second half of the previous campaign with a long-term ligament problem.
Nduli joined Pirates in June 2025 after leaving Stellenbosch FC and quickly became an important member of the Buccaneers’ midfield.
His latest injury interrupted that progress, but the club’s newest update indicates that his rehabilitation is moving in the right direction.
Two weeks of field-based rehabilitation ahead
According to Pirates’ medical update, Nduli has entered the field-based phase of his recovery.
Senior physiotherapist Kutlwano Molefe said the midfielder is expected to spend approximately two weeks working through field-based rehabilitation before beginning the process of reintegrating with the full squad.
That means Nduli is not yet ready for competitive action, but his return to running represents a significant milestone.
The club has not provided a confirmed date for his return to matches.
Nduli could be valuable for Pirates
The timing of his progress is notable as Orlando Pirates prepare for a crucial period of the season.
The Buccaneers will face Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 final on Saturday, 10 October, before returning to Betway Premiership action against TS Galaxy on 18 October.
With a demanding schedule ahead, Nduli’s eventual return would give head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou another midfield option.
For now, Pirates will be focused on ensuring the midfielder completes each stage of his rehabilitation before considering a return to competitive football.
How important could Sihle Nduli be for Orlando Pirates once he is fully fit?
