Emtee has given fans the clearest sign yet that his much-anticipated album Nairobi is close to completion. In a short message, the rapper wrote that the project is “almost done.”
The Update
The announcement follows months of anticipation. Nairobi has been one of the most eagerly awaited releases among Emtee’s fans, and his latest words suggest the wait may be entering its final stage. In September, he also said he wasn’t doing interviews until the album was finished, a sign of how much the project has become his priority.
A Name With Meaning
Emtee has a habit of naming major projects after his children. His 2015 debut Avery was named for his first son, and 2021’s Logan honoured his second. Nairobi is named for his daughter, born in 2023.
The title also nods to a significant chapter in his career. He has spoken about travelling to Kenya’s capital, where he worked with Trey Songz while dealing with illness, and has called it a “monumental moment” in his journey.
A New Sound
Emtee has hinted that Nairobi will move beyond the trap sound most associated with his catalogue. He has spoken about bringing in live instrumentation, including keys, drums and choral elements, which could give the album a distinct identity and show different sides of his musical ability. He has also suggested it could rank among his strongest work.
Back in the Studio
The update comes after a turbulent period that included his return to the stage at the Cape Town Kota Festival in September. With his focus back on the studio, anticipation keeps building.
No release date has been announced, but “almost done” is one of the strongest signals yet that the album is on its way.
