Nasty C has addressed comparisons between “As Planned” with Tellaman and Don Toliver’s “Secondhand” featuring Rema, calling the similarities a coincidence.

Nasty C has addressed the online comparisons between “As Planned”, his collaboration with Tellaman, and Don Toliver’s “Secondhand” featuring Rema.

The discussion emerged after Nasty C and Tellaman released their joint album T’s & C’s Apply on 1 September 2026. As listeners made their way through the project, some noticed similarities between the album’s closing track and Toliver’s song, particularly their atmospheric production, melodic elements and late-night R&B-inspired sound.

The resemblance prompted questions online about whether the two songs shared a sample, interpolation or another musical connection.

Nasty C says it was a coincidence

Addressing the comparisons, Nasty C suggested that the similarities were not the result of one song being deliberately modelled on the other.

According to the rapper, the music had already been sitting with him before listeners began pointing out the similarities.

“I dropped this album, and we happened to use the same producer or sample or whatever it is. And that was just like a coincidence,” Nasty C explained.

He added that the track had been sitting in the project for some time.

His comments appear to suggest that “As Planned” was not created as a response to Don Toliver’s “Secondhand”, despite the two tracks sharing certain sonic characteristics.

A shared musical atmosphere

“As Planned” closes the 17-track T’s & C’s Apply, marking another chapter in the long-running creative relationship between Nasty C and Tellaman.

The pair have collaborated on numerous occasions since the mid-2010s before eventually joining forces for the full-length project. Their musical chemistry is reflected throughout the album, with the closing track leaning into the atmospheric and melodic sound that has become familiar in their work.

On the other side, Don Toliver’s “Secondhand” appears on his Octane album and features Nigerian superstar Rema. The collaboration brings together Toliver’s melodic approach and Rema’s distinctive vocal style.

While the two songs come from different projects and artists, their overlapping production and mood were enough to catch the attention of listeners.

Fans continue to debate the comparison

Nasty C’s explanation has shifted the conversation towards the possibility of shared production influences rather than intentional imitation.

With global music becoming increasingly interconnected, similarities between songs can sometimes emerge through common producers, samples, musical trends or overlapping creative influences.

For now, Nasty C maintains that the resemblance between “As Planned” and “Secondhand” was simply a coincidence. The comparisons, however, have encouraged fans to listen to both tracks more closely and debate just how similar the two songs really are.
