The romanticized narrative linking Pitso Mosimane to the Kaizer Chiefs head coaching vacancy is a recurring theme in South African football media. Yet, as Amakhosi prepare for a massive winter squad rebuild, the legendary tactician’s own words suggest that the club hierarchy and fans need to finally let the dream go.

While “Jingles” recently acknowledged his deep-rooted historical connection to the club family—reminiscing about how Doc Khumalo’s father used to drive him around as a youngster—he has consistently poured cold water on a return to club football on the African continent.

Global Ambitions: Asia and North America Over Africa

Mosimane’s tactical gaze is firmly fixed beyond the borders of CAF. The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly mastermind has explicitly stated that his career legacy now depends on exploring entirely new global frontiers.

“To be honest, there is interest in me now and in a totally different space that you and I could ever think of – Asia, not the Gulf,” Mosimane revealed. “And there’s been an interesting one also from North America. And why not go to North America, why not go to Japan, China… because for us, it is also our legacy.”

Crucially for the Amakhosi faithful, Mosimane has drawn a definitive line in the sand regarding domestic club management: “National teams, I don’t have a problem to be back in the continent, but club-wise no.”

With the legendary coach prioritizing international projects or high-profile moves to Asia and Major League Soccer (MLS), the Chiefs board must look to a different pond to hook their next long-term tactical anchor.

World Cup Heartbreak for Shabalala Amid Squad Clearance

The reality check in the dugout coincides with a bleak medical update and a looming squad clearance at Naturena.

MEDICAL BAY HEARTBREAK:
Mduduzi Shabalala (22): The fan-favorite attacking midfielder is set to cruelly miss out on Bafana Bafana’s historic 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign after sustaining a fractured arm during the tense, late-season clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.

The injury adds a somber note to an off-season that will see massive player turnover. Up to seven senior players are sitting on expiring June contracts and face incredibly uncertain futures as the club clears the wage bill:

  • Gaston Sirino
  • Bruce Bvuma
  • Zitha Kwinika
  • Dillan Solomons
  • Sibongiseni Mthethwa
  • Khanyisa Mayo (Decision pending on loan buyout)
  • Pule Mmodi (Utility future under review)
