Okmalumkoolkat has finally given fans a date to circle on their calendars, officially confirming that his highly anticipated album iTheku eThekwini will arrive on 15 October 2026.
The Durban-born creative shared the announcement on Instagram alongside artwork that strongly reflects the spirit of the city that has shaped much of his artistic identity.
The striking visual features elements including Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban’s beaches, Zulu dancers and urban imagery, creating a colourful representation of eThekwini’s culture and energy.
Okmalumkoolkat ends the long wait
The release date marks an important moment for fans who have been following the project for years.
Okmalumkoolkat has previously spoken about the lengthy creative process behind iTheku eThekwini, describing it as a demanding project influenced by the events and realities of the period between 2020 and 2025.
Rather than rushing the album to fit a particular release window, the artist chose to give the project more time to develop.
That approach has only increased anticipation around the record, with supporters eager to hear how Okmalumkoolkat has translated those experiences into music.
‘iTheku eThekwini’ continues his experimental sound
Fans have already received glimpses of what to expect through tracks including “Into Yabantu Ababili” and “Soon As I Land” featuring Tony Dayimane.
The music continues Okmalumkoolkat’s reputation for combining futuristic hip-hop, experimental production and distinctly Durban-inspired cultural elements.
The album title itself reinforces that connection to eThekwini, a city that has remained central to his identity as an artist and creative.
A new chapter after ‘Mlazi Milano’
iTheku eThekwini arrives several years after projects such as the gold-certified Mlazi Milano, released in 2016, and uShukela eTiyeni, which followed in 2022.
Over the years, Okmalumkoolkat has continued to blur the boundaries between music, fashion, visual art and broader cultural expression.
The latest album appears set to build on that legacy while offering his perspective on a particularly transformative period.
With the official announcement now out, the wait is almost over.
Okmalumkoolkat’s iTheku eThekwini drops on 15 October 2026.
