Orlando Pirates arrive at the MTN8 final as the only PSL club yet to lose a competitive match this season. They meet Mamelodi Sundowns at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban at 18:00, in front of a sell-out crowd of more than 50,000.
A Repeat of 2023
The two sides are meeting again in a final they last contested in 2023, when Pirates won 3-1 on penalties.
Pirates: 12 Games, No Defeats
Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side have played 12 matches in all competitions and are unbeaten:
- Won: 10
- Drawn: 2
- Goals scored: 25
- Goals conceded: 3
Sundowns: Strong Attack, Leakier Defence
Sundowns have also started well but have been less watertight. In 12 matches across all competitions they have:
- Won: 9
- Drawn: 2
- Lost: 1 (to Golden Arrows in the MTN8 semi-final first leg)
- Goals scored: 27
- Goals conceded: 13
The Contrast
Sundowns have scored slightly more, but Pirates have conceded far fewer, just three goals against 13. Something has to give in Durban tonight.
