Tonight’s MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns (Moses Mabhida Stadium, 18:00) is a sell-out, with more than 50,000 fans expected. It is Pirates’ fifth successive final, and it comes with a bit of coaching history on the line.
The Records
Since the current sponsors took over in 2008, 16 different coaches have lifted the trophy.
- Jose Riveiro holds the record, with three straight titles at Pirates (2022 to 2024).
- Manqoba Mngqithi is the only two-time winner, with Golden Arrows in 2009 and Sundowns in 2021. The second came in a joint role alongside Rulani Mokwena.
- Abdeslam Ouaddou won it with Pirates in 2025 and would become a two-time winner by beating Sundowns tonight.
