Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has confirmed that winger Monnapule Saleng is back training with the first team. The 28-year-old has not played for Masandawana this season because of off-the-field issues.
The return to training
Saleng was spotted training with the Sundowns first team for the first time last week. He was not involved in the MTN8 final at the weekend, but many fans saw his return to the group as a sign that he is back in the coach’s good books.
What Cardoso said
Speaking to iDiski Times, Cardoso said the club, including himself, the Sport Director, the players, the captains and the chairman, decided to give both the club and Saleng a chance to move forward positively. He said Saleng trained consistently on his own for a period, respecting the values expected in a professional team, and has kept that up since rejoining the group. Cardoso said the club is happy with his consistency in training.
How it got here
Saleng joined Sundowns from Orlando Pirates in January and made a handful of appearances. Cardoso said he failed to travel with the team several times towards the end of last season, was dropped completely and had to train alone.
The big question
Can Saleng rebuild his place at Sundowns this season?
