Multi-talented poet, speaker, and presenter Botlhale Boikanyo has added a major academic achievement to her already impressive resume. The 25-year-old officially graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) on Thursday, July 16, 2026, earning her Bachelor of Arts Honours in Film & Television.
Taking to social media, Botlhale shared stunning photos from her graduation day, reflecting on the dedication it took to reach this moment. Her heartfelt announcement sparked a massive wave of love and congratulations from fans, peers, and industry colleagues alike.
“Here: a black girl from Maftown who dared to dream,” she wrote on Instagram. “Officially a Bachelor of Arts Honors in Film & Television from the University of the Witwatersrand graduate. Forever grateful for the privilege of learning, the gift of storytelling, and the grace that carried me through.”
The Secret Journey Behind the Scenes
What makes Botlhale’s achievement even more remarkable is that she managed to complete the rigorous postgraduate degree completely in secret. While her followers saw her traveling, creating content, and managing a busy career over the past year, she was quietly putting in the hours behind the books.
“Besties, I’ve been keeping a secret,” she revealed just days before the ceremony. “For the past year, while you were watching me travel, create and share life online, your girl was also studying for her Honours.”
Igniting a Passion for Learning
Botlhale revealed that her decision to return to university after a break from academics was sparked by a prestigious international experience. After participating in the Mandela Washington Fellowship at Michigan State University, her love for learning was completely reignited.
However, balancing the demands of an Honours degree with a thriving public career was no small feat.
“This journey wasn’t one that was easy,” she admitted. “It meant balancing lectures, research, deadlines while still working, travelling, creating and showing up for my community.”
By successfully juggling her professional commitments with high-level academics, the award-winning storyteller has proven that with discipline and determination, you don’t have to choose between your career and your education.
