The Bafana Bafana coach visited his old club’s base in Egypt, where he built one of the most successful spells of his career, just days before facing the Pharaohs.

Pitso Mosimane has been reunited with the club where he made history. The Bafana Bafana head coach visited Al Ahly at their Cairo base ahead of his side’s international friendly against Egypt.

Bafana and Egypt meet at Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, 4 October, with kick-off at 20:00 SA time.

A glittering Al Ahly legacy

Mosimane joined Al Ahly from Mamelodi Sundowns in September 2020 and left in June 2022. In that time he led the club to two CAF Champions League titles and three consecutive finals (2020, 2021 and 2022).

He took charge of 97 competitive matches, winning 65, drawing 22 and losing just 10. His trophy haul also includes two CAF Super Cups, one Egypt Cup and two Egyptian Super Cups. He added two FIFA Club World Cup bronze medals, a major achievement for the Red Devils of Africa.

Back in Cairo as Bafana boss

Now 62, Mosimane returns to the Egyptian capital with a new mission. After a flying start to his Bafana tenure, the friendly gives him a high-profile test against one of Africa’s heavyweights on ground he knows well.
