A track meant only for YouTube is now on streaming platforms, after a viral preview convinced the Umlazi rapper and his A&R it was too big to hold back.
Tony Dayimane has turned a YouTube-bound record into a full single. “Bad Bishhh,” featuring Usimamane and Qwellers co-founder Lowfeye, landed on major streaming platforms on Friday, 2 October.
How a snippet changed the plan
Dayimane and Usimamane originally recorded the song for Usimamane’s popular Tesla Tuesdays YouTube series. Then Dayimane posted a preview on TikTok, and the reaction was bigger than expected.
“I recorded it with the intention of having it on Tesla Tuesdays a few months back,” he explained. “Posted on TikTok and it went crazy. Played it for people and my A&R, and he said it’s too much of a banger to go on YouTube only.”
With listeners asking for an official release, Dayimane built the record out. He had not yet written a verse, so Lowfeye came on board, making it a three-way link-up between distinct voices in South African hip hop.
The chemistry
Usimamane and Dayimane already have a track record together, including “Woah,” “Dilikiyane” and “Lonke.” Lowfeye brings his Qwellers-rooted energy, helping shape “Bad Bishhh” into a street-focused collaborative cut.
A busy stretch
The release follows Dayimane’s Girls & MP3’s EP earlier this year and his sold-out Big Boy Live Show in Johannesburg.
