New developments have emerged in the murder case of beloved broadcaster DJ Warras, born Warrick Stock, following the court appearance of a suspect accused of carrying out the fatal shooting.
A 25-year-old Mozambican national, identified as Armindo Joaquim Pacula, appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 2 February 2026, in connection with the killing.
Pacula was arrested on Friday, 30 January, making him the second suspect linked to the murder of DJ Warras, who was shot and killed in the Johannesburg CBD on Tuesday, 16 December 2026.
Online Backlash Over CCTV Footage
The court appearance sparked intense debate on social media, with users questioning whether Pacula was the same individual seen in leaked CCTV footage from the night of the shooting.
The footage showed a suspect with dreadlocks, while Pacula appeared clean-cut in court—raising doubts and fueling online speculation.
SAPS Responds
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has since addressed the controversy, explaining that the difference in appearance was deliberate.
According to police, Pacula allegedly cut off his dreadlocks before his arrest. Officers told the court that the dreadlocks were later found inside the shack in Primrose, where the suspect was apprehended.
Key Evidence Recovered
SAPS further revealed that a plastic bag believed to have been used to conceal the firearm during the murder was also recovered at the arrest location.
However, police confirmed that the murder weapon has not yet been recovered, and investigations are ongoing.
