Thembinkosi Lorch could leave Al Ittihad Tripoli after a short spell in Libya. Could Kaizer Chiefs make a move for the experienced attacker?

Thembinkosi Lorch could be heading for another change of scenery, with reports suggesting the experienced South African attacker is set to leave Libyan side Al Ittihad Tripoli.

The 33-year-old joined the club in February after a spell with Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca, but his time in Libya could reportedly come to an end after just a few months.

That could leave the former Orlando Pirates star weighing up his next move, with a return to the Premier Soccer League potentially on the cards.

Lorch’s future in the balance

Lorch’s move to Al Ittihad came after an eventful spell in Morocco, where he represented Wydad and enjoyed one of the memorable moments of his career by scoring at the FIFA Club World Cup.

However, his latest stint in North Africa now appears to be heading towards an early conclusion.

If Lorch becomes a free agent, he could attract interest from clubs looking for an experienced attacking option. A return to Morocco could also be possible, particularly given the impression he made during his time with Wydad.

For now, though, his next destination remains unclear.

Could Kaizer Chiefs enter the picture?

A return to South Africa would certainly add an interesting dimension to the story.

A move back to Mamelodi Sundowns appears difficult to envisage, while another stint with Orlando Pirates could also be complicated given the circumstances surrounding his departure from the club.

That potentially opens the door for Kaizer Chiefs.

Lorch has plenty of experience in the PSL and knows exactly what it takes to perform in high-pressure matches. He also has an impressive record against Amakhosi, having scored six goals against Chiefs during his time with Pirates.

His versatility and experience could make him an attractive option if Chiefs decide to strengthen their attacking department.

However, there is currently no confirmation that Amakhosi have made an approach for the former Bafana Bafana international.

Another big move for Nyoso?

Lorch’s career has already taken him from Orlando Pirates to Mamelodi Sundowns, Wydad Casablanca and now Al Ittihad.

If his Libyan adventure does come to an end, another major move could be on the horizon.

Whether that takes him back to the PSL, keeps him in North Africa or sends him elsewhere remains to be seen.

For now, Lorch’s potential departure from Al Ittihad simply puts the experienced attacker back on the transfer radar — and Chiefs could be one club worth watching.
