Junior Khanye tears into Kaizer Chiefs' performance after their 2-0 loss to Siwelele, claiming Brandon Petersen saved them from a 5-0 thrashing.

Outspoken former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has delivered a scathing review of Amakhosi’s performance following their 2-0 loss to Siwelele (Bloemfontein Celtic) on Wednesday night. Khanye believes the scoreline flattered the Soweto giants and credited goalkeeper Brandon Petersen for preventing a total humiliation.

The defeat in Bloemfontein officially ended Kaizer Chiefs’ seven-match unbeaten streak and has reignited concerns about the team’s tactical identity under the current technical bench.

“No Clear-Cut Plan”

Speaking on iDiski TV, Khanye argued that the hosts dominated the game so thoroughly that the contest could have been over by halftime.

  • First-Half Failure: Khanye noted that key players, including Mduduzi Shabalala, Wandile Duba, and Lebohang Maboe, were “off” and failed to offer any meaningful resistance in the opening 45 minutes.
  • Panic in the Final Third: While Chiefs attempted a second-half comeback, Khanye dismissed their efforts, stating the team “rushed shots” and lacked the composure to take responsibility in front of goal.
  • The “Seema” Masterclass: Khanye reserved praise for Siwelele coach Lehlohonolo Seema, stating that he “exposed” Chiefs’ tactical flaws and outmaneuvered the Amakhosi bench.

“Petersen made so many saves… otherwise it could have been five. Kaizer Chiefs did not offer much in the first half… they only started playing after conceding twice.” — Junior Khanye

The Soweto Derby Hangover?

Khanye also linked the defeat to what he perceived as a negative tactical approach in the recent Soweto Derby. He criticized the decision to play three defensive midfielders against Orlando Pirates, suggesting that the praise the team received for that draw was misplaced.

“This is what I expected after they were applauded for holding Pirates,” Khanye added, implying that the team’s lack of offensive ambition is finally catching up with them.

The Road Ahead: A Date with the Champions

Things don’t get any easier for the Glamour Boys. Their next fixture is a daunting away trip to Loftus Versfeld to face league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

While a win could mathematically secure their grip on third place (depending on other results), Khanye’s comments suggest that without a radical change in training methods and tactical execution, Amakhosi could face another difficult night against Masandawana.
