Former Chiefs goalkeeper and club legend Brian Baloyi believes the time may have come for Petersen to temporarily step aside and allow another goalkeeper an opportunity.
Baloyi questions Petersen’s run of form
Baloyi’s concerns centre on what he considers a pattern of errors that have had a direct impact on Chiefs’ results.
Speaking on Soccerbeat, the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper argued that Petersen’s mistakes are becoming too costly, particularly when they result in goals.
According to Baloyi, a goalkeeper can make mistakes during a match, but the situation becomes more serious when those errors repeatedly lead to goals and dropped points.
His comments have inevitably raised questions about whether Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz should consider making a change between the posts.
Another difficult moment for Petersen
Petersen’s latest setback came against Polokwane City.
With Chiefs leading, Giovanni Philander’s effort eventually found its way past Petersen, allowing the home side to level the match.

The coach also acknowledged that conceding from a situation involving crosses and set pieces was disappointing, particularly because Chiefs were aware of Polokwane City’s strengths in those areas.
That backing suggests that Petersen’s position is not necessarily under immediate threat, despite the growing public debate.
Should Kaizer Chiefs make a change?
The situation presents Da Cruz with an interesting selection decision.
On one hand, continuing with Petersen could give the experienced goalkeeper an opportunity to rebuild confidence and demonstrate that the recent mistakes are temporary.
