AmaZulu FC have secured a new commercial partnership with Dutch beer brand Amstel, becoming the second Premier Soccer League (PSL) club to join forces with the brand after Orlando Pirates.
The Durban-based outfit officially announced the partnership, although the financial details and duration of the agreement have not been disclosed.
As part of the deal, the Amstel logo will feature on the sleeves of AmaZulu’s playing jerseys, beginning with their upcoming encounter against Golden Arrows.
The agreement represents another commercial development for Usuthu as the club continues to strengthen its partnerships and build its brand both on and off the pitch.
AmaZulu follow Orlando Pirates’ lead
AmaZulu are following a commercial path previously taken by Orlando Pirates, who partnered with Amstel in August 2025.
The latest agreement makes Usuthu the second PSL club to establish a partnership with the Dutch brand.
For AmaZulu, the deal is about more than simply displaying a sponsor’s logo on the team’s playing kit.
Club president Sandile Zungu believes the relationship is built on shared principles, mutual respect and a common understanding of what both organisations represent.
He also emphasised the importance of creating partnerships that deliver meaningful benefits to the club, its supporters and the wider AmaZulu community.
Sandile Zungu explains the thinking behind the partnership
Welcoming the new commercial partner, Zungu described the announcement as an important moment for the club.
He explained that both AmaZulu and Amstel have built their reputations over time and that their relationship provides an opportunity to create something meaningful.
According to the AmaZulu president, successful partnerships should be founded on shared values rather than simply brand exposure.
He believes the agreement creates opportunities to add value around the football team, its supporters and the broader Usuthu community.
The club sees the partnership as an opportunity to strengthen its commercial identity while working with a brand that shares its understanding of reputation and respect.
Amstel continues expanding its PSL football presence
The partnership with AmaZulu adds another South African football club to Amstel’s growing commercial footprint.
Its previous agreement with Orlando Pirates demonstrated the brand’s interest in associating itself with established PSL institutions and their passionate supporter bases.
With AmaZulu now joining the partnership network, attention will turn to whether other South African clubs could follow the same route.
For the PSL, partnerships of this nature also underline the commercial opportunities available to clubs looking to attract established brands and develop new revenue streams.
Could more PSL clubs partner with Amstel?
AmaZulu’s agreement with Amstel is another indication of the growing importance of commercial partnerships in South African football.
While the financial value of the deal remains undisclosed, having the brand featured on the team’s playing shirts gives the partnership immediate visibility.
It will be interesting to see whether Amstel expands its involvement in the PSL by bringing more clubs on board in the future.
For now, AmaZulu supporters will get their first look at the new sleeve sponsorship when Usuthu take on Golden Arrows.
Could Amstel become one of the biggest commercial partners in South African football, or will its PSL involvement remain limited to a handful of clubs?
