Rassie Erasmus Extends Springbok Contract Until 2031. This extension locks Erasmus into a six-year commitment to the Springboks.

SA Rugby’s Rationale for the Extension
SA Rugby President Mark Alexander praised Erasmus’s “remarkable track record” and the enduring impact he has had on South African rugby, citing the following key points:
- Historic Success: Erasmus led the Springboks to consecutive Rugby World Cup victories in 2019 and 2023.
- Distinctive Style: He has refined a unique style of play characterized by physicality, tactical intelligence, and resilience, which has kept the Springboks “both distinctive and formidable.”
- Cultural Impact: His tenure has fostered a strong culture of accountability, unity, and belief among players and management.
- Continuity and Stability: Extending the contract ensures continuity in leadership and invests in the long-term stability of the team’s technical systems and competitive ambitions.

Erasmus’s Commitment
Erasmus, a former Springbok captain who served as Director of Rugby from 2018 before becoming Head Coach in 2024, expressed his happiness with the decision:
“I have always said that I would find it hard to coach any other international team, and I’m very happy to continue as long as the South African public wants me.”
Under his leadership, South Africa has also won the Rugby Championship in the last two years and finished the last three seasons as the top-ranked team in the world
