The “Voice of the Cape” and the “Lyrical King of the Bay” have done it again. South African Hip-Hop heavyweights YoungstaCPT and Early B have officially released the music video for their latest collaborative anthem, “Y?STER.”
More than just a song, “Y?STER” (a slang term often used in the Cape to describe something or someone “solid,” “tough,” or “top-tier”) is a high-octane celebration of Coloured identity, street culture, and the resilient spirit of the Western Cape.
The Creative Powerhouse Behind the Scenes
The track is produced by YoungstaCPT’s long-time sonic architect, Shaney Jay, whose signature hard-hitting production provides the perfect canvas for the duo’s rapid-fire delivery.
The music video, directed by the acclaimed Mzi Xander and produced under the Y?GEN banner, takes viewers on a visual tour of Cape Town. Eschewing the typical tourist landmarks, the visuals dive deep into the heart of the community, featuring:
- Authentic Street Scenes: Showcasing the fashion, cars, and faces that define the “Kaapstad” aesthetic.
- Cultural Synergy: The chemistry between YoungstaCPT’s gritty, conscious bars and Early B’s witty, conversational Afrikaans flow remains undefeated.
- A Legacy of Collaboration: This marks another successful chapter for the duo, following their previous viral hits like “Yes Meneer,” proving that their partnership is one of the most significant in the history of SA Hip-Hop.
Why “Y?STER” Matters
In a music industry often dominated by Johannesburg-centric sounds, YoungstaCPT and Early B continue to serve as the primary ambassadors for the Western Cape. “Y?STER” serves as both a “thank you” to their loyal fanbase and a reminder to the rest of the world that Cape Town’s Hip-Hop scene is a powerhouse of its own.
The single, which officially dropped in late 2025, has already begun climbing charts, and the new visuals are expected to push it into heavy rotation across MTV Base and Trace Urban.
