DJ Speedsta celebrates his birthday by launching DJ 101, a fully-funded 8-week program for aspiring DJs. Learn how to apply and join the industry workshop.

South African Hip-Hop heavyweight DJ Speedsta (Lesego Nkaiseng) is turning his birthday into a launchpad for the next generation of music stars. Through the newly established DJ Speedsta Foundation, the media mogul has announced a generous initiative to fully fund professional training for four promising DJs.

The program, aptly named DJ 101 by DJ Speedsta, isn’t just a quick lesson—it’s an intensive eight-week journey designed to equip newcomers with technical mastery and the industry “know-how” required to survive in the competitive SA music scene.

How to Apply: Keep it Simple

Speedsta is stripping away the red tape to find raw talent. To enter, aspiring artists only need to submit a 30-second video introducing themselves, their hometown, and their “why.”

  • Deadline: April 27, 2026.
  • Announcement: Winners will be revealed on May 4 (Speedsta’s birthday) during a special episode of the Up To Speed podcast and across his social media platforms.

A Workshop for All

In a move that proves his commitment to the culture, Speedsta isn’t just helping the final four. Every person who enters the competition will be invited to a DJ 101 Workshop on May 9. The session will feature a panel of industry experts and guest speakers, offering a masterclass in the business of music that is often inaccessible to young creatives.

Paying It Forward

From his humble beginnings in the Vaal Triangle to dominating radio and television, Speedsta has seen every side of the industry. This initiative marks a significant chapter in his career, shifting the focus from his own performances to building a sustainable pipeline for South African talent.

“We’re having a full workshop with industry experts,” Speedsta shared. “This is about giving young creatives the resources they need to break through.”
