Stellenbosch FC has paid a moving tribute to their academy graduate and former midfielder Jayden Adams following his tragic passing at age 25.

The wave of grief crashing over South African football has hit the Cape Winelands with profound intensity. Stellenbosch FC, the club that scouted, nurtured, and launched the professional career of Jayden Adams, has released an incredibly moving tribute following the confirmed passing of the 25-year-old Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfield general.

For the Maroons, Adams wasn’t just a former player—he was a symbol of their academy’s elite excellence, a hometown hero who carried the pride of the region all the way from the local pitches of Stellenbosch to the grandest stadium stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Winelands Mourns: “He Will Never Be Forgotten”

In a deeply personal club statement, the Stellies board and technical team expressed their absolute devastation, extending their solidarity to Chloorkop and the Adams family:

“It is with profound sadness that Stellenbosch Football Club has learned of the untimely passing of our former player Jayden Adams. The Club wishes to extend its deepest condolences to Jayden’s family and loved ones, as well as everyone at Mamelodi Sundowns, and calls for their privacy to be respected during this unimaginably difficult time.”

“A proud flagbearer for the Cape Winelands, Jayden leaves behind a lasting legacy in Stellenbosch and an enduring impact on South African football. He will be deeply missed, and never forgotten.”

Making of a Maroon Legend

Before his high-profile multi-million rand switch to Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2025, Adams wrote his name permanently into the history books of Stellenbosch football:

  • The Prodigy: Made his professional first-team debut at the tender age of 19, quickly establishing himself as the irreplaceable heartbeat of Steve Barker’s midfield unit.
  • The Century Mark: Racked up an astonishing 139 senior appearances for the Maroons, becoming one of the most trusted and consistent young anchors in top-flight football.
  • History Maker: Played an absolutely pivotal role in guiding Stellenbosch FC to their historic 2023 Carling Knockout Cup triumph, delivering the first-ever major silverware to the club’s trophy cabinet.

As the Western Cape SAPS continue their formal inquest into the tragedy in Bo-Kaap, the entire Stellies community has draped the town in maroon to honor the memory of a true son of the soil.
