The Black Coffee Foundation has moved from relief to rebuilding by launching a housing project for families displaced by last year’s Eastern Cape floods.

The Black Coffee Foundation has taken a significant step toward long-term recovery in the Eastern Cape, with construction now underway on permanent homes for families affected by the 2025 floods.

The first phase of the project is being rolled out in Mthatha, bringing renewed hope to households that were left homeless after the devastating natural disaster.

Beyond Emergency Relief

According to the foundation, the initiative is designed to go beyond short-term aid and instead focus on restoring dignity, stability, and security for affected families.

Foundation CEO Lungie Maphumulo said the organisation remains committed to responding meaningfully to the needs of communities during times of crisis.

“Our goal has always been to meet communities where they are,” Maphumulo said.

Reflecting on earlier efforts, she noted that the foundation provided food parcels to flood victims last year, but has now deepened its commitment.

“This year, we are continuing that work with a deeper commitment – to rebuild homes, restore dignity, and invest in futures.”

Part of a Broader 2026 Vision

Maphumulo explained that the housing project forms part of a wider programme rollout planned for 2026, aimed at driving sustainable impact rather than temporary support.

She added that the foundation is working alongside partners including TenCo Foundation and ProRoof to help families rebuild their lives.

The initiative has been widely welcomed as a meaningful response to the long-term effects of climate-related disasters, positioning the Black Coffee Foundation as a key contributor to recovery and community resilience in the region.
